The carriers are working, but nothing is ready yet and the claims continue

Date:

Hiru’s union of autonomous carriers has decided to end the strike they have been waging for three weeks, but the representative has said he will remain vigilant and call for more demonstrations if necessary.

As of today, Hiru’s autonomous carriers’ union has called off the strike it has held for three weeks and has returned to work. In an interview attributed to the program “Egun on Euskadi” by ETB1Hiru’s spokesperson, Jon Altuna, has stressed that nothing has been completed yet, the requirements are there and they will continue to work until they are met. As he has said, they will see to it that the government keeps its promises and, if necessary, they will call for more mobilizations.

Yesterday Hiru held a meeting in Lasarte-Oria, attended by 90 of its members. The proposal to return to work was supported by 50 people, 31 voted to continue the strike and 8 abstained.

Jon Altuna has said that several positive aspects have emerged from this strike, such as the visibility that the labor conflict has had in society, the solidarity and unity among the workers or the wide follow-up that the mobilizations have had. He also added that they have established contacts with the Basque and Navarrese governments and have shown willingness to comply with their demands.

Some of the strikers’ requests are still pending, such as the option to retire at 60 or not work below cost.

Jon Altuna has recalled that the Spanish government wants to pass a decree-law before July so that no one works below cost: “We are waiting for that”.
