In Tyrol, numerous police and fire brigades searched the Lech on Thursday evening in search of a missing stand-up paddler. A passerby had previously raised the alarm.
According to the police, a 66-year-old man observed a person riding a stand-up paddleboard across the Lech from the Vorderhornbachbrücke (Reutte district) around 7:40 p.m. The previously unknown athlete is said to have lost his balance during a rapid and fell off his board. The person was then aborted.
Search canceled with no results
“After the witness could no longer see the person, he made an emergency call,” police said. Helpers from Stanzach, Forchach, Vorderhornbach, Rieden, Ehenbichl, Höfen and Weißenbach am Lech, the Reutte water rescue service, the Red Cross, mountain rescuers with drones and a rescue helicopter immediately arrived on the scene. No one was found. “The search was called off around 9:30 p.m. without results,” the director said.
Investigators are now looking for witnesses and hope the stand-up paddler himself will contact them (telephone: 059133/7152).
