1.5 per mille in the blood – Five injured after a head-on collision in Burgenland

Date:

After the terrible head-on crash on Saturday afternoon in Unterpullendorf (Burgenland), more and more details are becoming known. The driver of the accident (29) from Vienna may have driven much too fast after a wedding party with a blood alcohol level of almost 1.5 per mille. His Skoda drove through a roundabout and collided with a jeep. The man (66) behind the wheel – he is from Strebersdorf – was trapped and seriously injured.

The accident happened shortly before 5:30 p.m. A Viennese Skoda driver crashed into the Unterpullendorf area at far too high speed.

Look out over the road divider
The 29-year-old, who was heavily intoxicated, had apparently overlooked the road divider. His car, driven by three friends from Vienna, raced into the middle of the planted roundabout, felled a tree, crashed into a road sign and rammed an oncoming jeep. The 66-year-old from Burgenland behind the wheel was violently thrown backwards onto the verge in his vehicle, which he had borrowed from a friend.

The rescue operation was dramatic. The accident victim was trapped. The Oberpullendorf fire brigade had to free the seriously injured man from the wreckage with rescue equipment. The patient was flown to the trauma center of the LKH Wiener Neustadt in Christophorus 16.

“It creaked terribly, almost like an earthquake,” said resident Zele Sorim. The loud bang woke him up from his afternoon nap. The witness saw a terrifying scene when he looked out the window. “I immediately ran outside. Three people were lying in the street, on the sidewalk and in the meadow. They were quickly checked by the emergency services who were alerted. Even the asphalt was torn due to the crash,” reports the shocked resident.

The person who caused the accident was only slightly injured
The driver of the accident – he was probably on his way home from a wedding in Frankenau – escaped with minor injuries. He was taken to Oberpullendorf Hospital. An alcohol test showed: just under 1.5 per mille in the blood! Two passengers – aged 28 and 29 – were seriously injured. They are under the care of specialists at the clinics in Eisenstadt and Wiener Neustadt.

A third prisoner (35) was taken to the shock room of the Eisenstadt hospital. In addition to the Red Cross and three emergency helicopters, three fire brigades with 40 volunteers were on site. The drunk man who caused the accident has been charged with driving negligence.
