Firefighters do extraordinary things: the Spittal fire brigade in Carinthia proved this once again on Thursday. A calf threatened to drown in the river Lieser. Numerous Florianis then jumped into the water and rescued the few days old animal.
The young calf escaped from a farm in Spittal on Thursday afternoon and ran away. While trying to catch the calf, the animal fled and fell into the Lieser. Operational manager Lucas Weger immediately jumped after the calf.

But the animal managed to escape again and was carried downstream by the current. Several firefighters then went into the water and were able to contain the calf with a human barrier. The young animal was then recovered unharmed with a crane.
The Spittal/Drau fire brigade was deployed with 20 emergency services and the police.
