It is not the first time that an illegally parked car has blocked the path of a tram in Vienna. On Monday morning, the emergency services had to go out again to re-park an illegally parked BMW. The chaos in public transport was not long in coming.
Several times a day an incorrectly parked car blocks the path of a Bim or a bus in Vienna. Last year the penalties for this were even tripled. Instead of the previous 128 euros, drivers now have to pay a fine of 365 euros. However, there are regular reports of problems due to “wrong parking”.
Four trams blocked
This time there was a real traffic jam in the Hormayrgasse in Hernals. Line 9 could no longer continue due to an incorrectly parked BMW. Within a very short time, four trams were waiting one after the other to continue their journey. Much to the annoyance of many public transport users.
Long waiting times
There was no trace of the driver anywhere, so the fire brigade had to be called in to legally move the car. The drivers and passengers had no choice but to wait. According to Wiener Linien, these types of operations can take more than an hour.
Wiener Linien repeatedly calls on motorists to be particularly careful when parking, to avoid these types of delays and therefore high fines.
