After knife attack: – First politician calls for merciless deportation

Date:

After the knife attack in Mannheim that killed a police officer, there is renewed intensive discussion in Germany about asylum, Islamism and the dangers of political Islam. There are now calls for a tougher approach to criminal foreigners, especially from the SPD stronghold of Hamburg.

After Friday’s bloody act in Mannheim, in which a police officer (29) was fatally stabbed by a 25-year-old Afghan, there are calls for stricter action across party lines.

Clear words
Hamburg domestic senator Andy Grote has the clearest words. “Anyone who commits serious crimes here must leave the country, even if he or she comes from Afghanistan,” the SPD politician emphasized to “Bild”.

The application receives full approval from the Federal SPD
And adds: “Here, Germany’s security interests outweigh the perpetrator’s interest in protection.” According to “Bild”, Grote has already submitted a corresponding proposal to the Ministerial Conference of the Interior. By way of explanation: the knife attacker from Mannheim, Sulaiman A., came to Germany from Afghanistan in 2014.

Deportations from Afghanistan were suspended in 2021
Germany suspended returns to Afghanistan in August 2021, citing the risky situation there. However, in the future, this exception will no longer apply to criminals and dangerous persons. Deportations to other countries – for example to Syria – must also be possible. Germany is therefore facing a decisive asylum transition.

Full support for the initiative
As “Bild” also reports, the German Ministry of the Interior led by Nancy Faeser (SPD) would support Grote’s initiative, as would the entire SPD leadership. “The death of the young police officer in Mannheim makes us angry and stunned. If someone, like the likely perpetrator, commits the most serious crimes here, he has lost his right to stay here and should be deported to Afghanistan,” SPD party vice-chairman Dirk Wiese emphasizes.

Flight connections must be used
According to the filing, Faeser’s Interior Ministry is asked to “ensure that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs conducts an up-to-date assessment of the security situation for Afghanistan and Syria, in particular with regard to the Damascus region.” the existing international flight connections for repatriations.” In plain language: criminal Afghans should be deported via neighboring Pakistan and Syrians should be deported to Damascus.

The attacker would have to serve a prison sentence in Germany
From now on, the perpetrator from Mannheim would have to serve a possible prison sentence in Germany. Whether and when a foreign criminal is deported after serving his prison sentence depends on several factors, including the situation in his country of origin at the time of his release from prison.

By the way: the Mannheim attacker is currently not ready for questioning for health reasons. During the attack he was shot by a police officer. A warrant has been issued for his arrest and he is charged with attempted murder.

Also Chancellor for strict action against extremists
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) also announced stricter measures against extremists. “We will defend the rule of law and security with everything we have at our disposal. The police, the judiciary and our intelligence services have this task, they do it, but we as citizens will also stand together.” Extremist perpetrators from the left and right “must be afraid and expect that we will use all means to counter them. them .”

Mourning ribbon arranged for killed police officer
The Minister of the Interior of Baden-Württemberg, Thomas Strobl (CDU), has now ordered a mourning ribbon and a minute’s silence for the deceased police officer. The 29-year-old will be commemorated on Friday – a week after the crime – at 11.34 am. A funeral service is also planned. It is not yet clear when this will take place, according to a police spokesperson. They first want to give the family space to grieve.
