According to the fire brigade, one person died in a fire in a senior home in Vienna-Favoriten on Monday afternoon. Eight people were taken to hospital by the Vienna Professional Rescue Service with suspected smoke poisoning.
Alerted by an automatic fire alarm system, the Viennese professional fire brigade deployed 14 vehicles and 60 to the nursing home on Fontanastrasse.
Room very smoky
A fire team entered the smoke-filled room wearing breathing apparatus and found the lifeless person. The fire was extinguished around 6 p.m. The cause of the fire was still being determined.
The Viennese rescue team took over the care on site. The more seriously injured were then taken to hospital.
Injured people who are not in danger of death
According to a spokesperson, there was no danger to life. Four people were released into home care.
