Dramatic scenes at Lake Faaker See in Carinthia: a holidaymaker from Tyrol “fished” a family and a small child out of the 17-degree cold water.
Exemplarily equipped with wetsuits and life jackets, a young family of four from Lower Austria braved the changeable weather on Sunday – and sailed in their inflatable boat with an outboard motor across Lake Faaker See before lunch. Until the boat turned sideways for an unknown reason, capsized and all occupants fell into the 17(!) degree cold water.
Particularly tragic: among the holidaymakers who fell overboard was a boy of only two and a half years old. A witness (42) from Tyrol was on the water in an electric boat, immediately rushed to help and brought the family to the safety of the coast at Strand-Nord 4 near the “Anderwald” campsite.
Boy went to hospital
The water rescue teams and an emergency doctor, who have now been alerted, then cared for the family members who had fallen overboard. Because the toddler was said to have been under water for a few seconds, the boy was taken to Villach Hospital for further examination to be on the safe side.
