Unemployment fell in May by 3,131 people in the BAC and by 462 in Navarre

Unemployment fell in May for the second month in a row in the Basque Autonomous Community (CAV) and for the third month in Navarre. The decline was greater in the BAC, -2.86% less than in the previous month, while in Navarra -1.53%, according to data provided this Tuesday by the Ministry of Labor and Employment of the Basque Government and the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. In concrete terms, there were a total of 106,422 in May Unemployed registered with the Basque Public Employment Service Lanbide, 3,131 less than the previous month. In Navarre, unemployment fell by 462 people last month, bringing the total number of unemployed to 29,779.

Between May 2023 and the same month of this yearthe number of unemployed decreased by 853 people (-0.8%). In Navarre the decline was -0.78%, with 233 fewer people without work.

The three areas of the Basque Autonomous Community have reduced their number of unemployed compared to the previous month, with 725 fewer unemployed in Arabia (-3.86%) 1009 less in Gipuzkoa (-3.46%), and 1397 less Bizkaia (-2.27%). Compared to May 2023, the number of unemployed in Araba decreased by 910 people (-4.79%), by 20 people in Bizkaia (-0.03%), while in Gipuzkoa it increased by 77 people (+0.27% ).

Unemployment has fallen mainly in the services sector, as of the 3,131 least registered unemployed in May, 2,826 belonged to this sector. In industry there have been 154 fewer unemployed people, in construction the decline has been 136 fewer unemployed and in agriculture 80 fewer.

In the whole of Spanish state Registered unemployment decreased by 58,650 people, 2.20%, to 2,607,850 unemployed, while unemployment lists compared to May 2023 decreased by 131,260 people, 4.79% less.

Membership and contract details

The Basque Autonomous Community added 5,497 additional members to social security from April to May (0.54%), so the number of contributors remains above one million and amounts to 1,019,213, according to data made public this Monday by the Ministry of Inclusion , Social Security and Migration.

Compared to the figures of last May and those of the same month in 2023, there are now 16,627 more employees, which represents an increase of 1.66%.

As it stands, the number of affiliates has now been increasing for four months, after losing 9,756 contributors in January.

In terms of recruitment, 62,794 new contracts were signed in May, of which 14,705, 23.42%, almost one in four, were permanent.

Joining Social Security Navarre has increased by 3,089 members, 1% more than in April, and stands at 311,263 contributors. Compared to May 2023, there are 4,733 more contributors, which represents an increase of 1.54% year-on-year.

Social Security had an average of 220,289 contributors in May Spanish state compared to the previous month (1%), mainly thanks to the boost from the catering industry, which attracted almost 78,000 members in the month. After the increase in the number of employed persons registered in the fifth month of the year, the number of average affiliates reached a record figure of 21,321,794 employed persons.
