Agirre has worked in the Basque government’s financial field since 2013, first as director of the Tax Administration and, since 2017, as deputy minister of finance. Perona was run over and killed on August 7 while cycling in a town in Zamora.
The current Deputy Minister of Finance and Finance of the Basque Government, Itziar Agirre, will replace the late Jokin Perona as Deputy Minister of Finance and Finance of Gipuzkoa, sources from the regional institution have reported.
Itziar Agirre Berriotxoa, born in Urretxu (Gipuzkoa) in 1975, has worked in the field of finance in the Basque Government since 2013, first as director of the tax office and then, from 2017, as Deputy Minister of Finance.
Agirre will take up the position of Deputy for Finance and Finance of Gipuzkoa, which has been vacant following the death of Jokin Perona, who was run over on August 7 while cycling in a town in the province of Zamora.
She studied law at the University of Deusto, worked in private companies before joining the Basque Government, holding administrative positions at Manufacturas Oria between 1999 and 2003 and as an advisory lawyer at Elkarlan until 2013.
In addition, she has been a PNV councillor in the Urretxu municipal council since 2003 and was a lawyer in the General Assemblies of Gipuzkoa in the 2007-2013 term.
