A 13-year-old British girl has died in an incident in a swimming pool at a Florida theme park. The girl was on holiday there with her family. It was found unconscious in the water and later pronounced dead at hospital.
Student Anna Beaumont was found dead in the water at the all-inclusive Discovery Cove day resort in Orlando. The saltwater coral reef pool is known for swimming with dolphins and snorkeling with tropical fish.
The rescue came too late
When emergency services immediately arrived, Anna was immediately taken to the nearest hospital. However, only her death could be determined there. The resort was deeply affected by the incident.
Family is desperate
Anna’s parents Peter and Elizabeth and her younger brother Jake are heartbroken over her loss. A family friend said: “This is so tragic. The family was very excited about the holiday. “You never dream of having to go home without your child.”
It was an accident
The Florida medical examiner’s office has ruled the teen’s death an accident. The cause is given as drowning. Orange County police said the investigation is ongoing. Once the body is released, it can be returned to Britain.
A Foreign Office spokesperson said of the accident: “We are in contact with the family and providing consular support at this difficult time.”
