The statements of the mayor of Bilbao demanding arbitration to put an end to this strike “against citizens” have led to rejection in the commission, which “considers the city council’s smear campaign as very serious.”
A total of 24 of the 38 Bilbobus buses that have to provide minimum services are “stopped due to sabotage”, Biobide, the concession company with which this labor dispute is open, reported this Wednesday.
The buses are “sabotaged a few meters from the exit of the garages”, so they have to re-enter the facilities. Among other incidents there are “flat tires, throwing stink bombs into the aisles of the vehicles, paint and milk, requiring the bus to be removed and replaced on the other, with the resulting delay and damage”.
In this context, the mayor of Bilbao Juan Mari Aburto has demanded arbitration to end this strike ‘against citizens’ and has asked the Basque government for more minimum services.
The works council describes the statements as ‘very serious’ and assures that the ‘smear campaign“What the city council has decided is very worrying. The staff assures that they will not accept any proposal that does not include increases guaranteeing the CPI, and will convert the 62% insecure contracts into full-time contracts.
ELA requires guaranteeing purchasing power
For its part, ELA has demanded that purchasing power and precarious contracts are eliminated to end the indefinite strike. The union recalls that the working population has been without a current agreement since the end of 2021, causing the loss of purchasing power to accumulate.
Bilbobus employees have been on strike indefinitely since April 9.
