A 42-year-old alcoholic was sentenced to 12 months’ unconditional prison. The man was driving drunk in his car in Krenglbach (Upper Austria) on November 8, 2021, came into the oncoming lane and collided with an ambulance. One patient (83) died as a result of the accident. The verdict is not final.
The second, 82-year-old patient and two Red Cross workers – then 21 and 22 years old – were injured. One of the young men even had to be cut from the wreckage. The driver was also injured, according to the police report. At the time of the accident, his blood alcohol level was 0.85 per mille.
In their criminal complaint, Wels’s prosecutor’s office charged him with death by gross negligence and by negligent bodily harm. A first trial date in April was approved. The man was sentenced Thursday to an unconditional prison term of 12 months. The verdict is not final.
