The current conditions in the mountains of Tyrol turned fatal for a German couple (both in their mid-thirties) in Schwaz on Wednesday. Because of the snowfields and steep terrain, they did not dare to go any further. The mountain rescuers had to arrive.
According to the police, the holiday couple from Berlin climbed from the Spieljoch mountain station towards Kellerjoch around lunchtime. The two Germans were dressed in hiking clothes. During the tour, however, the conditions in the Tyrolean mountains proved to be their downfall.
Nothing worked anymore because of the fear
“Due to multiple snowfields and the increasing steepness and exposure, the couple did not dare to move forward or backward during the descent,” police said. The two hikers then made an emergency call.
Nine men from the Schwaz mountain rescue service joined the couple. “He was absorbed 700 feet over the hard snow and brought to the valley unharmed.”
