Career fictitious – US Member of Parliament forged and embellished CV

Date:

George Santos won a seat in the US House of Representatives for the Republicans in the US congressional elections in November. But now the New York Times has revealed that the 34-year-old supporter of ex-President Donald Trump has falsified, or at least embellished, practically his entire resume. The prosecutor’s office is now conducting an investigation.

Santos, a self-made man of considerable wealth, with a career as a fund manager at investment banks Goldman Sachs and Citigroup (pictured below during the campaign), made a powerful impression on voters in the New York boroughs of Long Island and Queens. They got him a lot of votes in the elections.

Newspaper exposed scam
In the midterm elections, he won the traditionally Democratic district by an eight percentage point margin, giving Republicans a critical seat for the razor-thin majority in the US Congress. However, New York Times research published before Christmas cast doubt on Santos’ statements. He initially spoke of “defamatory allegations” but finally had to admit on Monday that he had “beautified” his resume.

In fact, Santos simply lied about his origins, professional career and alleged wealth. He did not study, as he claimed, nor did he pursue a career as a fund manager. At one point, he even worked for $15 an hour in a call center. And those 13 houses he wants to own are also fictional. He and his mother have even been evicted from apartments several times for not paying the rent.

“We do stupid things in life”
Santos finally admitted in two interviews on Monday that he had significantly falsified his resume. He has never worked at Goldman Sachs and Citigroup banks, nor does he have a college degree, he admitted. And – contrary to what was claimed during the election campaign – he is not a Jew, but a Catholic, according to the brand new member of parliament. He’s sorry he “spiced up his resume,” but “we do stupid things in life,” said the 34-year-old.

The district attorney of the Nassau district of New York is also surprised that the Santos forgeries are simply breathtaking. According to American media, the Republican has launched an investigation. In Brazil, Santos is being prosecuted for check fraud and the New York Times reports that the financial situation is opaque. His purported non-profit animal welfare organization “Friends of Pets United” was never introduced accordingly and did not forward any donations, the paper said.

Democratic deputies are demanding action from the Republican party leadership and now want an investigation into the cause by the ethics committee. Santos had defrauded the voters in his constituency and should therefore be expelled from the House of Representatives. In any case, the 34-year-old wants to accept his mandate. “I will take office,” he defiantly declared in an interview with New York radio station WABC.
