A team from the Kumberg Red Cross experienced a special mission on May 27. Shortly after five in the morning they were called to Purgstall near Eggersdorf for an operation. According to the information text, the mother of two children must be transported to the nearest hospital to give birth. The ambulance crew was checking the expectant mother’s values when her waters suddenly burst.
Immediately afterwards the contractions started. Driver Daniel alerted the emergency doctor, while paramedics Pascal and Annika, who are currently in training, became midwives, the Red Cross describes in a broadcast: “Little Theresa was born at 5:28 am in perfect health in front of her parents’ house. Before the emergency physician arrived, the newborn’s umbilical cord could be removed, wrapped in a blanket and handed over to the new mother.”
Mother and baby were then transported to Graz University Hospital for a check-up.
