Spectacular scenes took place in the city center of Dornbirn early on Thursday evening: after a loud bang, the vehicle of a 57-year-old woman caught fire – fortunately an escaping driver reacted with presence of mind.
The driver was driving towards Hohenems around 5 p.m. when she suddenly heard a loud bang near the Dornbirn indoor swimming pool. Shortly afterwards smoke came from the engine compartment.
An oncoming driver reacted like a textbook: he also stopped his car, grabbed the fire extinguisher and extinguished the flames that were already blazing – the fire brigade, which arrived a short time later, only had to do the clearing work.
No one was injured in the incident. The reason for the car fire was probably a technical defect
