The family, who had gathered at the hospital in tears after learning her 70-year-old mother was dying, arrived and were told the doctor’s phone call had been a mistake. Tim Prime is called to the hospital and told that the doctor advised his mother Sheila to die and for the family to gather and say goodbye.

Tim said the call left him “quite a bit” but when the family got to the hospital, the senior nurse said the information they were given was incorrect and Sheila wasn’t dying. A spokesperson for the University of Hull Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust said they were aware of the complaint.

Sheila was hospitalized on Christmas Eve with a chest infection, after which she was soon diagnosed with pneumonia. On March 7, his children got a call from someone, Tim said, introducing himself as a physician at the Royal Hospital, HullLive reports.

Tim said, “When I was called, I was absolutely devastated. My mom is my queen and I can’t see my life without her. No matter what I do, through thick and thin, she has always been by my side. Meet her and she is a famous woman.”

“I’ve had a tough few months for my mental health and this news was almost enough to push me over the edge. I decided to stay strong for my brothers and thank God I did.”

But the hospital family was told that Sheila was not dying, and the family claimed they had been told that the doctor they called did not see her mother’s medical record. A spokesman for the University of Hull Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust said: “We can confirm receipt of a complaint from the Prime Minister regarding staff conduct and communication and will respond directly to the Prime Minister in a timely manner.”

Sheila was later moved to another ward, then out to a nursing home, and then back from a nursing home to the hospital. Tim says there was also confusion about the mother’s diet as all of her food had to be ground and ground.

An NHS Trust spokesperson said: “We are concerned to hear more issues related to nutrition and his mother’s release and welcome further discussions with Mr Prime to better understand and address these additional concerns.”
