Do you find it annoying when the parcel deliverer no longer rings the doorbell or when the yellow collection slip is carelessly stuck somewhere? A curious legal case from Carinthia shows the pitfalls of everyday life as a postman and how a document must be filed correctly and in accordance with the law – otherwise it can become expensive.
“Pay attention, dog!” says the sign in front of the garden gate of a huge building, behind which lives a large and, according to the court document, quite “aggressive” Rottweiler. The postman responsible for the Carinthia delivery area hardly dares to get out of her vehicle or even ring the doorbell. She honks as she passes by to draw attention to herself and leaves the mail in a newspaper tube some distance away. So far so good. But is that enough?
What if an important document is due and there is a yellow slip because it was not delivered? Where should you place it? This is exactly what a case at the Klagenfurt Regional Court is about: a company demanded compensation of almost 26,000 euros from the dog owner – to no avail. Because the payment order was never received.
