Horror flight with AUA: – “It is traumatizing for people who have a fear of flying”

Date:

The hail accident involving an AUA aircraft at an altitude of 6,100 meters has apparently made many people uneasy. After landing in Vienna it became clear that the nose of the aircraft was completely shattered. The Linz psychologist and psychotherapist Ivana Gloger offers relevant seminars against fear of flying for those affected.

“An accident like this with this Airbus, which ended up in a hailstorm, is very disturbing for people who have a fear of flying, and can be triggering and even re-traumatizing if you have already had a similar negative experience,” says de Linz. psychologist and psychotherapist Ivana Gloger from the Carpe Diem Health Center.

Seminars against anxiety disorders
Together with a colleague she gives seminars against fear of flying. For people who suffer from aviophobia, the mere thought of boarding a plane evokes fear. This can be very bad for those affected, especially if their work requires them to fly frequently.

“In principle, all people with a fear of flying are advised to undergo psychological treatment or psychotherapy. It is a mistake to believe that not flying is enough. Because then there is always the risk that this avoidance will maintain the disorder, namely the fear of flying. “That could lead to me first not flying anymore, then because of this anxiety disorder I also stopped taking the train and at a certain point I no longer got on the tram or sat in the car,” says Gloger.

“Facing the Fear”
The psychologist advises to face the fear after therapy and fly a lot – even though that sounds strange. This causes the brain to get used to the challenge and realize that the worries are unnecessary. She herself is not afraid of flying – “even though I don’t like turbulence.”
