After the enormous fuss surrounding a nest that was knocked off the mast, Salzburg AG is taking a completely different approach to a new stork case. The power cables are insulated and thus ensure the safety of a pair of Lamprechtshausen storks.
This time there is no nest drama. After the excitement surrounding the storks it had chased away in Salzburg-Leopoldskron, Salzburg AG is now caring for a newly discovered flock of birds.
A pair of storks has once again chosen a mast from Salzburg Netz GmbH as a nesting site. The two built their nest near Holzhausen (Lamprechtshausen) – this time on a mast on the 30 kV line.
According to the electricity supplier, the danger to the birds should not be underestimated, because the smaller distances between the conductor cables compared to a 110 kV line mean that injury or death from an electric shock is very high. At the same time, power outages can also occur.
According to the press release from Salzburg AG, the first measures have been taken in cooperation with the state nature conservation authority to protect the storks and ensure security of supply. First of all, the overhead line cables in the vicinity of the nest are insulated. In a second step, it is examined whether and how the nest can be moved.
