The bus driver’s health problems may have been the reason that a country bus went completely out of control in Rankweil (Vorarlberg) on Wednesday morning. This caused numerous damage to the house wall and a bus stop. Fortunately, no passersby or passengers were injured.
At around 7:20 am, spectacular scenes unfolded around Konkoridaplatz in Rankweil. After the driver of the electric bus lost control of the vehicle – apparently due to a medical emergency – the yellow monster left the road and crashed into a house, tearing away a piece of the wall.
The bus then bumped along the sidewalk towards the Konkordiaplatz bus stop and hit the bus stop. After an advertising column was damaged before the heavy vehicle crashed into the boundary wall of a driving school. Eventually the bus skidded along the country road and stopped against the wall of a kindergarten. Neither passengers nor passers-by were injured during the wild ride through Rankweil. No one was injured except the bus driver.
The road had to be closed due to the cleaning work. The Rankweil fire brigade supported a damaged wall and nailed down the badly damaged business premises with formwork. Employees of the Rankweil construction site and the state support the fire brigade with the work.
