A loud bang shook the border town of Laa in Lower Austria around 5 p.m. on Thursday. The explosion, which according to initial information came from a gas container, quickly set fire to a car dealership in the middle of the border town. According to initial information, there are no injuries.
Twelve fire brigades from across the area are working hard to get the fire at the Opel factory under control. The danger: the car dealership is located at a busy intersection and there is a coffee shop right next to it.
Column of smoke visible for miles
Immediately next to it, on the other side, is the business premises of one of the largest agricultural tipper manufacturers in Europe.
At this time, the flames have been prevented from spreading and according to initial information, there are no injuries. Because the workshop also has a tire warehouse, not only the flames but also the smoke were enormous. The pitch-black column of smoke can be seen for miles and the area has been cordoned off over a large area.
The fire is now under control, but the fire brigade is still looking for embers.
