Due to a technical error, Vienna University of Applied Sciences WKW accidentally sent confirmations of university places to 480 people, which had to be withdrawn the next day due to the limited number of places. Those affected are now on a waiting list.
At the universities of applied sciences, there are only a limited number of places available per course, for which you must register through an admission procedure.
Wrong promise
The email with the incorrect confirmation asked applicants to officially register and transfer the tuition fee within four days, otherwise the place would be given to the next person on the waiting list.
FH has already responded
“Of the 480 recipients of the correction email, only 35 had already accepted the incorrectly offered study place in the online registration portal and paid the tuition fees,” said a broadcast by the FHWien der WKW on Thursday evening. Only “a few” of these 35 applicants stated that they had immediately canceled study places at other universities.
Number of study places limited
They cannot guarantee a place for those who have been rejected because, according to a report by ‘Kurier’, there are only a certain number of state-funded study places for each bachelor’s and master’s degree. Instead, the FH advises to inform the other universities about the incorrect acceptance.
Some of those affected have now – regardless of the incident – risen from the waiting list and have actually received an offer for a study place, according to the FHWien der WKW. She expects this will be the case for even more applicants.
The Austrian Student Union (ÖH) has not yet received any complaints about this. Those affected are advised to contact their corporate lawyers.
