The leaders of Germany, Canada, the United States, France, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom discussed issues of increasingly turbulent global geopolitics, and the negotiations produced a 36-page statement.
The statement of the G7 Leaders Summit in the Italian hotel ‘Borgo Egnazia’ includes a fierce defense of Ukraine, with a loan of millions of dollars guaranteed by Russian assets, as well as a warning to Venezuela and the disappearance of the word “abortion,” among many other issues.
The leaders of Germany, Canada, the United States, France, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom They have addressed issues of the world’s increasingly turbulent geopolitics. These are some of the keys to a 36-page document resulting from the negotiations.
– The abortion controversy: The ‘Borgo Egnazia’ summit was overshadowed by the defense of abortion, a word that ultimately did not appear in the final declaration. The far-right Meloni and French President Emmanuel Macron, in ideological contrasts, have exchanged statements on the issue.
Finally, leaders simply reaffirmed their commitment to last year’s Hiroshima Declaration, in which they committed to “addressing access to legal abortion and post-abortion care.”
The agreed text reads: “We reiterate our commitments to the ‘Communication of Hiroshima Leaders’ for universal access to adequate, affordable and quality health care for women, including comprehensive sexual and reproductive health and rights for all”, without mentioning the word .
– Loan to Kiev from Russian assets: The first agreement of this G7 was a loan to Ukraine of 46 billion euros that will be financed by the interest generated from Russian assets frozen around the world, especially in the European Union. Moscow has already warned of the “extremely painful” consequences of this measure.
– “Clean” elections in Venezuela: The incumbent Italian Presidency has wanted to pay special attention to Ibero-America and that is why the Venezuela Group has asked for ‘free’ elections on July 28 with observers, in compliance with the Barbados Agreement, and to put an end to the ‘ intimidation of opponents’. and the arrest of all political prisoners”.
– “Robust actions” against Chinese entities aiding Russia: The leaders also announced their commitment to punish Chinese banks that help the Kremlin evade Western sanctions and Chinese companies that help the Kremlin access weapons technology.
– China’s “unfair” trade practices: The leaders have also expressed concern over China’s “unfair” trade practices and assured that while they do not want to hamper the Asian giant’s growth, they want Beijing to adhere to the rules governing international trade.
– Threatens Iran for supporting Russia in Ukraine: G7 leaders have warned Iran to respond “swiftly and in a coordinated manner, including with new and important measures” if Tehran continues to support Russia in the war in Ukraine with “ballistic missiles and related technology” that “pose a direct threat to the European Union” safety”.
