They wanted to take a stand against the housing shortage in the city of Salzburg and quickly hijacked the building of the former brothel “Maison de Plaisir” on the banks of the Salzach.
Prostitutes used to lounge here and on Friday evenings left-wing activists hijacked the empty rooms of the former ‘Maison de Plaisir’ in the Salzburger Steingasse. The protest movement ‘Vacancy 5020’ said it wanted to send a signal against the ‘failed housing policy and the ever-increasing housing crisis in Salzburg’.
The group raised two banners, set off fireworks and informed the media of their crackdown. But the ghost was over after a short time. The activists quickly left.
The police went as quickly as possible to the “Maison de Plaisir”, but found no one there.
As is known, the former brothel is being converted into a hotel. Lena Bauer from Leerstand 5020 says: “We want to create a place for everyone in vacant buildings and rooms, regardless of income and origin.”
