A bloody act near Magdeburg shocked Germany: one man stabbed another in a prefabricated building, then also attacked football fans at a European Championship party and injured three people. The identities have now been established: both the fatal victim and the perpetrator came from Afghanistan.

According to police, a 27-year-old Afghan is responsible for the attacks on Friday evening in the town of Wolmirstedt in Saxony-Anhalt. First, the 27-year-old stabbed a man in a nearby prefabricated housing estate with a knife-like object. According to police, the victim is also Afghan. The 23-year-old man died from his injuries after the attack.

Another attack on the EM party
According to the police, the attacker initially moved aimlessly through Wolmirstedt after the bloody act. Shortly after 9 p.m., he entered private property in a single-family home where a private watch party was taking place for the opening match of the European Football Championship.

He attacked the football fans and injured three people. A 50-year-old woman and a 75-year-old were seriously injured and a 56-year-old man was slightly injured. Shortly afterwards, alarmed police officers rushed over. When the perpetrator attacked the emergency services, two officers shot him. The man died a short time later in hospital.

Motive not yet clear
The motive for the crime is currently unclear, according to police; there is no evidence of a religiously motivated crime. According to “Bild”, the two Afghans got into an argument. The investigation is ongoing.
