Dramatic incident Friday morning at the Hochwurzen in the Styrian district of Liezen: Shortly after take-off, the paraglider’s glider collapsed, the pilot (37) from Salzburg fell ten meters onto a slope and was seriously injured.
Around 11 a.m., the 37-year-old was near the Hochwurzen mountain station when his umbrella collapsed under the summit slope just a few seconds after takeoff for currently unknown reasons. The Salzburger then fell about ten meters into the depths.
A fellow paraglider alerted the emergency services
Another paraglider pilot saw the accident, landed near the middle station and immediately called the emergency call. The man was seriously injured in the crash. He had to be flown to Schwarzach Hospital.
The Schladming and Rohrmoos-Untertal volunteer fire brigades supported the crew of the Martin 1 emergency medical helicopter and the Red Cross in caring for the victim and helped carry him to the helicopter.
The Alpine Police is investigating
The cause of the accident is currently unclear, the Leoben public prosecutor’s office has ordered the parachute to be confiscated. The Alpine Police (AEG-Liezen) is now conducting further investigations.
