Barely transparent ownership structure in the luxury hotel “Aurelio” in Lech (Vorarlberg). Owner Pawel Jesubow’s assets are now also frozen.
From luxury hotel to problem property: hotel ‘Aurelio’ in Lech made headlines again in the spring. At the time, the owner of the luxurious barn, none other than Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska, sold the house. And just before it got on the EU sanctions list. However: The “Aurelio” remained in the family, as the buyer was a cousin of Deripaska: Pawel Jesubow (also spelled Ezubov). But now this businessman has also ended up on the sanctions list.
„beneficial owner“
After new EU sanctions came into effect late last week, the State Security and Intelligence Directorate (DSN) informed the competent courts in Vorarlberg that Pawel Jesubow’s assets would be frozen. He is listed in the Treasury Register of Beneficiaries as the ‘Indirect Beneficiary’ of the Aurelio. “That is why the responsible courts were informed on July 22,” a spokesman for the Interior Ministry said on Thursday.
Deripaska, who is a major supplier of weapons and military equipment to the Russian armed forces, has transferred “significant assets” to his cousin Jesubow, including a hotel in Lech through Jesubow’s Russian holding company, Gost Hotel Management, sources said in the justification for the sanction decision.
Matryoshka with six dolls
It is anything but child’s play to see through the financial and property situation. In public company books, Jesubow’s ownership of Hotel “Aurelio” cannot be directly proven. The ownership structure is reminiscent of a Russian matryoshka doll with at least six dolls: the Lech hotel belongs to the Austrian “Aurelio GmbH & Co KG”, which in turn belongs to the Cypriot “Dornton Limited”. The latter is owned by “Gost Hotel Management”, named in the sanctions decree, which is owned by the Russian “Ltd. Evolyutsiya”, itself owned by the Russian “Ltd. Polarjon”, which in turn is owned by the Russian joint-stock company company “Tensor”. The person holding the shares in this AG does not appear in the Russian company register.
Not even with the pliers
Lech’s tourism boss Fercher congratulated Deripaska on the “prestige object” in front of the revolving TV camera, so that no one wants to touch the hotel “Aurelio” with pliers anymore. After Russia invaded Ukraine.
