Dangerous operation – driver ignores barrier: car falls into ditch

Date:

After last week’s storms, several roads in Eastern Styria had to be closed due to imminent danger. Anyway, the driver of an Audi in Vorau probably thought to himself on Sunday morning and continued driving. But he didn’t get far. He ended up in the ditch.

There was no point in sleeping in for the volunteer fire brigade. Shortly after 5:30 am, comrades from the FF Vorau were called to Puchegg, a district of Vorau, to pick up a vehicle. When they got there, they probably couldn’t believe their eyes. Because three young men had simply ignored a driving ban imposed on this stretch of road due to the heavy storm.

Accident on a closed road
Out of stupidity or ignorance, the driver continued to drive on the heavily damaged municipal road until he slid his Audi station wagon into the approximately half-meter deep ditch. Part of the road was washed away by the storm.

Firefighters themselves in danger
Because the firefighters could not safely drive their emergency vehicles to the scene of the accident to rescue the car using a cable winch, the municipal excavator from the market town of Vorau had to be called in to assist. The driver and his two passengers were unharmed.

After two hours the operation was over for the 17 forces. Finally, only the urgent call from the fire brigade remains: “Please stop the roadblocks!”
