NATO is said to be evaluating Take more nuclear weapons out of storage and put them on hold for a possible deployment, given the growing threat from Russia and China, as announced by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in an interview with the British newspaper Telegraph.
Stoltenberg explained that there have been discussions among NATO members about this use its nuclear arsenal as a deterrent.
“I will not go into operational details about how many warheads should be operational and which should be stockpiled, but we need to discuss these issues. That’s exactly what we do,” he said.
“NATO’s goal is of course a world without nuclear weapons, but as long as they exist, we will remain a nuclear alliance” he added. “A world in which Russia, China and North Korea have nuclear weapons, and NATO does not, is a more dangerous world,” he added.
For its part, the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskovhas warned that Stoltenberg’s words about the use of more nuclear weapons represent an “escalation” of the conflict.

According to a report by the Stockholm International Peace Studies Institute (SIPRI), the number of operational nuclear weapons has increased in 2023 compared to previous years. The major world powers continue to modernize their arsenals 90% belong to Russia and the United States.
