The Linz Public Prosecutor’s Office has filed a criminal complaint against a 14-year-old from Perg in Upper Austria for bodily harm and coercion. The teenager with a migrant background is said to have attacked the 68-year-old lifeguard in mid-May and beat him to the hospital, just because he wanted to check his personal details.
After a few weeks of sick leave, Arnold W. can return to work as a lifeguard at the Perg outdoor swimming pool. The 68-year-old, who has worked as a swimming pool supervisor for decades, will probably never forget Pentecost for the rest of his life.
The psychological effects of a 14-year-old’s vicious attacks are unlikely to heal as quickly as the physical ones. The outdoor pool worker had his bloody nose, bruises and hematomas on his face and chest treated in hospital after the brutal incident on May 15. The mental effects will continue to gnaw at him for much longer. It could be useful for the attacks against him to be heard in court soon.
Six months in prison possible
“We have filed a criminal complaint against the 14-year-old on suspicion of coercion and physical harm,” said Ulrike Breiteneder, spokeswoman for the Linz public prosecutor’s office. Due to his youth, the maximum penalty is six months in prison. There is already a date for the trial: he must appear before the Linz Regional Court on July 24.
As reported, the 14-year-old allegedly attacked the lifeguard after confronting him about coming to the outdoor pool without a ticket. After he refused to give his personal details to the lifeguard and the lifeguard wanted to take a photo of him with his mobile phone, he allegedly tried to knock the mobile phone out of his hand by kicking it.
Buffet owner as savior
This was followed by punches to the face and upper body, as well as wild threats and insults: “I’ll fuck your mother!” The 14-year-old is said to have only let go of his victim after a buffet worker rushed to his side for help and shouted at the violent attacker in Turkish.
