According to reports from the Ministry of the Interior, in response to several bloody crimes in the area, the weapons ban zone in Vienna-Favoriten will be extended after the summer. The extension is for three months, until September.
Otherwise the scheme would have expired at the end of June. The weapons ban has been in effect since March 30. In addition to classic weapons, it is also prohibited to transport other dangerous objects capable of “exerting violence against people or property”. There are exceptions to carrying weapons, for example for professional purposes.
The area extends above Reumannplatz to the beginning of Antonsplatz and in the other direction over Keplerplatz and Columbusplatz to the main station. The zone is bounded in the west by Laxenburger Straße and in the east by Sonnwendgasse and Herndlgasse.

According to the Ministry of the Interior, as of May 31, there had been 25 reports of violations of the weapons ban zone and 26 seizures of weapons or dangerous objects; 19 of them were knives.
Advertising has decreased
An evaluation for June is still pending. Since the introduction of the weapons ban zone, reports against young people have fallen by 23 percent in the same period last year, the department said.
