The 45-year-old defendant broke into two car dealerships in Upper Austria: once he lost the loot while fleeing, and once he drove away in a luxury car. During Tuesday’s trial before the Linz Regional Court, he already showed routine.
The defendant, a 45-year-old Czech, sat politely, willingly and very relaxed in the Linz regional court on Tuesday. That may also be because it was not his first time: the 45-year-old has already been convicted of eight relevant convictions and was again charged with burglary. Last year on two days.
Lost loot
The trained car mechanic drove to Linz for the first time on December 23 to break into a car dealer. He cut open the safe with a welding machine. However, the 45-year-old lost the approximately 7,000 euros stolen from it because he was caught red-handed and hastily fled.
Lamborghini established
On New Year’s Eve he struck again, this time at a car dealer in Neuhofen an der Krems. There the Czech found the keys to a Lamborghini in an office. Because he had not received enough cash during the burglary, which he said he needed for an operation, he quickly got behind the wheel of the luxury car and drove to the Czech Republic. The Lamborghini – reportedly worth just over 300,000 euros, prior to the trial it was discussed that it was worth a maximum of 400,000 euros – was found there, and the thief was arrested.
Three years in prison
In court he made a full confession, was remorseful and made no excuses. This had a mitigating effect on the sentence, as did the fact that some thefts involved attempted theft. However, the 45-year-old’s relevant criminal record and his rapid decline into crime made matters even more difficult. Hence the verdict that has now become legally binding: three years of unconditional imprisonment.
