The campsite on Lake Hafnersee in Carinthia must make way for a hotel chain at the end of September. Guests who have been camping there for decades no longer understand the world. The “Krone” spoke to those affected.
“We have rented the property for decades. Today we feel like vermin,” emphasizes Ernst Hoffman. The Viennese and his wife Eva have been camping on Lake Hafnersee for more than 45 years: “Since the rally that we have to evict at the end of September, we don’t know what to do.”
As reported, the Falkensteiner Group is planning to build a 5-star premium campsite with a new restaurant and infinity pools – next to the Heath Lake. A world collapses for the Hoffmann couple and 200 other campers: “We have been living here for almost half a year by the lake for twelve years now. Some neighbors are here all the time too. Apparently no one is responsible for us, neither the old landlord nor the new one.”
The contracts have not yet been signed. Nevertheless, the camping village must be vacated by the end of September. “As a sad and angry grandmother, I wrote to the governor. We have been paying 2,200 euros a year for 40 years. With 200 permanent campers, that is 440,000 euros”, Ingrid Schauer is shocked. Your children and grandchildren grew up on the Hafnersee.
“There is community, solidarity and friendship in the camping village,” emphasizes Kathrin Sowa-Mörtl from Klagenfurt. Hundreds of children would lose their summer paradise.
