Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday thanked North Korean leader Kim Jong Un for his “constant and unwavering” support for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine during the summit both expected to take place in Pyongyang. a new strategic partnership treaty.

The Russian president also appreciated the “significant progress” made in the EU cooperation between both countries since the previous summit between the two on Russian soil, and has expressed confidence that negotiations this Wednesday in Pyongyang “will be productive”.

Putin has announced that both leaders will discuss “a new document” that will serve as the basis for the long-term bilateral relationsat the beginning of the meeting that took place in the North Korean capital, the Russian agency TASS reported.

“The government of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (official name of North Korea) appreciates the important mission and the role of a strong Russian Federation regarding the maintenance of strategic stability and balance in the world,” Kim said, quoted by the agency RIA Nóvosti.

The North Korean leader also expressed his “full support and solidarity with the Russian government, military and people regarding the implementation of the special military operation in Ukraine to protect its sovereignty, security interests and territorial integrity.”

Kim added that the global situation is rapidly changing and Pyongyang is planning in this context strengthen its strategic ties with Moscow.

After the opening speech, the rest of the summit, which lasted about 90 minutes in total, was held behind closed doors.

Putin flies to Vietnam today after a two-day official visit to North Korea.
