Last November, a 15-year-old girl met a boy on the instant messenger service Snapchat, who pressured her so much that she ended up sending him several videos of herself performing sex acts. On Wednesday, the 19-year-old was in the Vienna Regional Court.
The case concerns cyber grooming – the targeted manipulation of underage victims on the internet to commit sexually motivated attacks. The young man initially had an innocent conversation with the person involved, after which he asked for a photo of her bare upper body.
Bursch created a menacing backdrop
According to the prosecutor, the girl voluntarily sent him one. The boy then used this to create a threatening atmosphere. The next day he asked for more photos. When the 15-year-old refused, he threatened to publish the first photo, her cell phone number and home address.
“He was behaving quite aggressively. “She succumbed to the pressure,” the prosecutor said. The boy then had the 15-year-old make several sex videos and send them to him.
After a few days, the desperate 15-year-old confided in a friend. This convinced her to go to the police and file a report. Snapchat cooperated with law enforcement authorities in the police investigation so that a 19-year-old apprentice chef could be identified as a suspect and brought to justice.
First denied, then known: “Very unpleasant”
During the investigation by the Public Prosecution Service, the 19-year-old denied being the perpetrator and assured that he was the victim of a mix-up. However, he now made a confession before a jury. “He doesn’t know exactly why he did it,” his lawyer said. For her client the case was ‘very unpleasant’.
Before the suspect was questioned, the public was excluded at the request of the 15-year-old’s legal representative.
