A Malaysia Airlines Boeing 737 had to make an emergency landing at Hyderabad airport on Thursday morning local time. One of the plane’s two engines caught fire after the climb (see video above).
The plane’s right engine, a Boeing 737-800, had caught fire, according to a video taken by one of the passengers. The pilot returned and initiated an emergency landing in Hyderabad; all 138 passengers were unharmed.
The plane landed at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at 3:20 a.m. local time, where scores of fire engines and rescue vehicles were already waiting on the runway. The incident is now under investigation, a Malaysia Airlines spokesperson said. “The aircraft is on the ground for further inspection,” he said.
Only on Monday did a Boeing 737 make an unplanned emergency landing in New Zealand en route to Melbourne – after reports from passengers of repeated flames coming from an engine – krone.at reported (see below).
Numerous malfunctions involving Boeing aircraft
The incident follows numerous other accidents involving Boeing aircraft. The company has been in ongoing crisis since the crashes of two 737 Max planes that killed a total of 346 more than five years ago.
