For days, midsummer fire enthusiasts have been watching the weather forecast for Saturday evening and hoping rain won’t derail their plans – as it did with the Sacred Heart fires two weeks ago. Because when the longest day of the year meets the shortest night, summer in the Alpine region is once again greeted with fire. Our mountains are then literally on fire.
