Alexander Zverev, second seed, needs a comeback to advance his duel against Frenchman Arthur Fils (6-7(5), 6-3 and 6-4) and reach the semifinals of the Halle tournament against the Polish Hubert Hurkacz, winner in 2022, defeating the American Marcos Giron in two sets.
Zverev, runner-up at Roland Garros a few weeks ago and two-time finalist in Halle, seeking the first grass title of his career. The 27-year-old German is already in the semifinals, needing two hours and twenty-six minutes to end Fils’ push, which he won for the second time in as many matches after the Hamburg event, on dirt, in 2023.
The German will face Hurkacz in search of his third final in Halle. The Pole, ranked ninth in the world, beat American Marcos Giron 7-6(5) and 6-4, after one hour and 37 minutes. This is the second time Hurkacz has beaten the North American, both on grass. One is at Wimbledon in 2021.
With eight titles in his career, including one in Halle in 2022, none this year, he will face his third semifinal of the season after scoring a match with 42 winners, eleven from direct aces.
Zverev always beats Hurkacz. They have played three times and all on the German side. No one is in the grass.
