Spectacular accident Saturday morning on the B179 Fernpassstraße in the Ausserfern region of Tyrol: a German driver (56) first grazed an oncoming vehicle and then collided head-on with another car. A married couple and the 56-year-old suffered significant injuries – the latter had to be extricated from the wreckage with rescue scissors. The B179 – a hotspot in tourist traffic – was completely closed for an hour and a half.

The serious accident happened around 7 a.m. near Bichlbach, according to police. The 56-year-old German was on his way home in his car when, for reasons unknown, there was a grazing collision with a couple’s car. The German then collided with the car of another compatriot (53) with full force.

As a result of the impact, the 53-year-old’s car turned 90 degrees and came to a stop in an adjacent field. The driver and his passenger suffered injuries and were taken to the Garmisch clinic after first aid,” said the director. The other couple escaped unharmed and unharmed.

With emergency helicopter in clinic
The 56-year-old German, on the other hand, was trapped in his car and had to be freed from the wreckage by the fire brigade with rescue scissors. He flew with the emergency doctor helicopter to the clinic in Kempten.

Fernpassstraße had to be closed to all traffic in the vicinity of the accident for approximately one and a half hours. There were no local alternatives.

Police are still looking for possible witnesses to the accident. These must be reported to the Lermoos Police Inspectorate (tel.nr 059 133/7154).
