He was well equipped and knew the mountain – and yet a resident fell on the Katrin in Bad Ischl. But the accident went unnoticed for a long time; only a day later did other mountaineers find the victim by chance. All help came too late.
A 56-year-old from Bad Ischl wanted to climb the Katrin via ferrata in the municipality of Bad Ischl on Saturday around 3 p.m. He already knew the via ferrata from a previous climb and was sufficiently equipped for the alpine undertaking.
Dangerous point turned fatal
The approach to the via ferrata requires certainty and the 56-year-old probably lost his footing or balance in an exposed spot which was also secured with a fixed rope and fell approximately 50 meters through steep and rocky forest area.
He suffered fatal injuries and was only discovered by chance on Sunday around 1:15 p.m.
