Once a firefighter, always a firefighter. A Floriani youth from the Salzkammergut proved this when he was on holiday in Crete. For when there was a fire and help was needed, he immediately helped his Greek comrades to control the flames at the hotel.
Christian Stoxreiter (49) from Tiefgraben actually wanted to spend a few relaxing days in Crete with his wife Maria. But after three days, his calling as a firefighter caught up with him. “On Wednesday there was thick smoke and ash rain fell over our hotel complex in Agios Nikolaos,” the firefighter said.
‘I couldn’t help it“
And because he had no other choice, he immediately came to the aid of his Greek colleagues and received a breathing mask. The fire was extinguished after 90 minutes. “Even the city commander thanked me,” says Christian Stoxreiter happily.
