The German government wants to better protect women in the future against intimidation by radical opponents of abortion. A bill against so-called sidewalk nuisance was adopted on Wednesday.
Accordingly, countries should ensure that women have unhindered access to counseling centers and facilities that perform abortions. The design comes from Minister of Women’s Affairs Lisa Paus (Greens).
Here you see a tweet from Lisa Paus about the new law.
In order to enforce the law, a criminal fine must sometimes be imposed. Intimidation can then be punished with a fine of up to 5,000 euros. “We must effectively protect pregnant women against intimidation and unreasonable influence in counseling centers, practices and clinics,” said Paus. In this case, freedom of expression has its limits. The protection of life is guaranteed through open-ended pregnancy conflict therapy.
Protest with prayers
Counseling centers such as Pro Familia’s had previously repeatedly reported that women and workers seeking advice were besieged by radical opponents of abortion. They stand in front of the facilities, pray loudly and hold up signs with religious motifs.
