At least 19 dead and 12 injured in a multiple terrorist attack in the Russian republic of Dagestan

The attacks took place on the same day that the Russian Orthodox celebrate Pentecost.

Russian authorities confirmed on Monday that this is already the case 19 dead for the terrorist attacks registered in the Russian republic on Sunday Dagestanin the Caucasus, where fifteen police officers and four civilians were killed, including an Orthodox priest.

According to preliminary information from the Russian Investigative Committee: five alleged suspects in these attacks they were “neutralized” by the security forces as part of the anti-terrorist operations that started immediately after the attacks and have now ended.

The attackers had launched an attack on a church and a synagogue in Derbent, a town near the border with Azerbaijan. There they killed the priest and later attacked a traffic police post in Makhachkala (the capital of Dagestan), an attack that was preceded by a shooting in the town of Sergokala.

The Investigative Committee, which is continuing the relevant investigations, indicated in a message broadcast through its Telegram account that the attackers have been charged with committing terrorist acts, illegally possessing, transporting and storing weapons and stealing weapons. The governor of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, has stated this earlier three days of mourning before the attacks.

The attacks were carried out on the same day that the Russian Orthodox celebrate Pentecost. The previous attack on a church in this republic came last February, when a gunman fired indiscriminately into a crowd of people celebrating the Russian festival Masletnisa, a carnival-like holiday that precedes the Great Orthodox Lent, claiming four lives.
