At his farewell, Torres, visibly moved, said his resignation was the “emotionally most difficult moment of” his political life, but pointed out that “everything has a beginning and an end.” “It has been a passion to be mayor of Portugalete, an honor and a huge pride,” he said, before pointing out that he has not taken a single day off in his 16 years as mayor.

In the same way, he emphasized that the Municipal Council is in a “wonderful” economic situation and that its bills and main projects are supported by all parties, to whom he thanked for their cooperation during these 16 years, both those who have been partners in government (PP , Podemos and PNV, depending on the stages) and EH Bildu from the opposition.
