A wave of deadly violence shook the northern English city of Liverpool. As the police announced on Tuesday evening, a nine-year-old girl was shot and killed by an unknown person late Monday evening in a house. A man and a woman were taken to hospital with gunshot wounds. According to regular media reports, the perpetrator had broken into the house in the northeast of the city. He’s on the run.
It was the third time in a week that a person had been shot dead in Liverpool. A 28-year-old woman died Sunday morning after someone shot at her in her home. The attack probably did not target the woman, police said.
She was the half-sister of a 16-year-old who was shot dead in Liverpool in 2015 – his killers apparently mistook him for someone else. So far, there is no indication that the attacks on the 28-year-old and the girl are related. In the evening of August 16, a 22-year-old man was shot dead and two perpetrators fled on electric bicycles.
“Terrible Act”
Mayor Joanne Anderson asked the public for help. “This is a heinous act of evil. If you know something, you have to say it,” Anderson said. She recalled exactly 15 years ago that an 11-year-old boy was accidentally shot in a gang fight. “Have we learned nothing?” said the mayor. Police had previously complained that they ran into a wall of silence in Liverpool.
