Tuesday is World Blood Donation Day – and for the “Steirerkrone” the reason to support the Red Cross in its urgent appeal for help! Because: The blood supply is shockingly low, a quarter of the donors have disappeared – RC representative Christian Steinscherer leaves no doubt that the situation is really serious: “And the coming holidays will lead to a further shortage.”
Only 3.2 percent of Styria donate blood
While we could all be in a situation where we need someone’s blood, only 3.2 percent of Styria provide life-saving fluids. A bottle is needed every 90 seconds, despite all the medical advances there is no substitute for blood. It is necessary after accidents, but also during difficult deliveries or operations.
According to Christian Steinscherer, the current stock is 500 canned goods; a single mission may require 50 or more.
Let’s set an example on June 14th Blood Donation Day! If you can come and donate, please do, we hope for active participation. Any healthy person between the ages of 18 and 70 who meets all the criteria and weighs more than 50 kilograms can donate.
