65 Florianis on site – cyclist stop on the Danube was on fire

Date:

On Monday, a bar in Hollenburg in the Krems district (Lower Austria) caught fire, claiming 65 Florianis. The flames spread quickly, luckily no one was in the building.

The popular tourist destination on the Danube was about to open for lunch on a sunny Monday when staff suddenly discovered a fire on the roof of the kitchen. Luckily there was no one in the restaurant at the time.

The flames spread quickly, raising the alarm level to B3. All Krems fire stations and the fire brigades of Krustetten, Oberfucha and Wagram were warned about the fire.

Building partially collapsed
The firefighting attack began immediately. Using hollow nozzles directly in the kitchen, the emergency services were able to prevent the flames from spreading to the actual restaurant. The interior deployment of two respiratory protection teams had to be stopped after a short time because parts of the building collapsed. Nevertheless, the Florianis managed to contain the fire.

“The fire was extinguished with additional extinguishing lines via the roof of the adjacent building to the seat of the fire. A team worked their way up the roof structure using ladders and started to bring the fire under control in the area of the flat roof,” says the Krems an der Donau fire brigade. The affected bicycle stop is located directly on the stair path next to the Danube. This provided emergency services with sufficient water to extinguish the fire.

The restaurant manager remains optimistic: “The fire only destroyed part of the kitchen, but the actual restaurant was saved by the fire brigade. We can do this!”

Heat affects Florianis
The warm summer day caused problems for the emergency services who were alerted. A respiratory protection team member suffered from poor circulation and a second firefighter suffered from weakness on the roof.
