The Wolfsberg fire brigade had to respond to an apartment fire in the city center on Monday evening. The Florianis had to rescue a seriously injured person from the apartment.
It is still completely unclear why the fire broke out in the kitchen. “We were warned about the fire and when we arrived the kitchen was completely on fire,” said Christoph Gerak, commander of the Wolfsberg fire brigade. The apartment owner may have tried to control the flames in advance.
“Leave the apartment screaming”
According to police, a 56-year-old man from the Wolfsberg district allegedly tried to extinguish cooking oil that had ignited while cooking water on the stove. “The person suffered serious injuries,” Gerak said in an interview with the “Krone”. “He was able to leave the apartment himself screaming,” the officers say. Neighbors noticed it, called the emergency services and tried to extinguish the fire themselves.
After medical treatment on site, the seriously injured man was transferred to the Wolfsberg LKH and from there flown to the Graz LKH. The extent of the material damage has not yet been determined.
